Thanks to everyone for lending us their cars for this race: - Tesla Model S Plaid: 🤍 - Ferrari SF90: 🤍 This may just be the most outstanding electric vs hybrid vs petrol drag race of all time! We’ve got Mat lining up in the Tesla Model S Plaid, and he’s about to go head-to-head against a Ferrari SF90 & Porsche 911 Turbo S! So let’s see how these three compare. Starting with the Tesla, it’s equipped with three electric motors - one on the front axle, and two on the rear. Combined they produce an almighty 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. Naturally, the motors and batteries weigh it down a bit, so it tips the scales at 2,190kg. In terms of price, you can pick one up new for £113,000. Next up we have the Ferrari. Not only does it come with three electric motors, but it’s also packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8! When they combine, it can put down an incredible 1,000hp and 800Nm! It’ll come as no surprise that it’s lighter than the Tesla, weighing in at 1,580kg (but we think Ferrari may be watering down their figures a bit…). And while it’s lighter than the Tesla, it’s SO much more expensive, costing from £376,000! Then finally we have the Porsche. It’s powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can produce 650hp and 800Nm. This power is sent to all four wheels, and it tips the scales at 1,640kg. It may be cheaper than the Ferrari, but it still carries a hefty price tag, costing from £180,000! Starting with the Bugatti, it’s powered by an incredible 8-litre quad-turbo W16 that pumps out 1,600hp and 1,600Nm of torque. It sends power to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,995kg. There have only been 30 ever built, so as a result, it’s pretty expensive, costing around £4,000,000!! Then we have the Tesla. It’s equipped with three electric motors, and they combine to produce 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. It has four-wheel drive, and it weighs in at 2,190kg. The Tesla Model S Plaid, so named because it’s the only speed faster than Ludicrous in the 1987 Star Wars parody movie Spaceballs. Hashtag ElonHumour. Basically a tri-motor electric saloon with 1,020bhp, 1,050lb ft and all-wheel drive. The combination allows for pretty brutal acceleration: in the US the Model S Plaid has been clocked at 2.11 seconds to 62mph from rest, 4.19s to 100mph, 6.99s to 130mph and 0-150mph in 9.17 seconds. The quarter-mile was completed in 9.248 seconds at just over 150mph. It beats the Chiron up to 100mph. So what does this Track Package add, then? Well, hopped-up battery conditioning for one, some different settings for the air suspension, and more aggressive torque vectoring. It’s the hardware that’s the most obvious though. For roughly £16,000 in the UK, you also get the carbon-ceramic brake package, high-temp brake fluid, and a ‘Zero-G’ wheel and tyre package that includes 20-inch lightweight wheels and Goodyear Supercar 3R tyres. So has it helped fix some of the weak spots of the non-track pack Plaid? It would be fair to say that any Tesla review gets our comments section filling up with lots of opinions - some who agree with what we say, others not so much. And we have always said that we will speak as we find here at AutoEV, and so not everyone will agree with us. And whilst Tesla can be a very divisive brand, it is also a very popular and successful one. Back when AutoEV launched as a magazine, we invited a journalist to write a road test review of the Tesla Model S, which was the first electric car he had ever driven. Of course since then, he has probably driven every new electric car that comes to market for us as that was Bryan, our now Editor. We’ve got Mat lining up in the Koenigsegg Agera RST, and he’s about to go head-to-head against a Tesla Model S PLAID and a supercharged Suzuki Hayabusa! So let’s see how these three monsters compare, and of course, we’ve got to start with the Koenigsegg! It’s powered by an incredible 5-litre twin-turbo V8 that delivers an eye-watering 1,360kg and 1,573Nm of torque. It’s equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and sends all of its power to the rear wheels. It’s also super light, tipping the scales at 1,395kg, and it’s easily the most expensive car Mat has ever drag-raced, with an estimated value of £3,500,000!! Alongside it, we have the Tesla Model S Plaid. It’s equipped with three motors, and they combine to put down 1,020hp and 1,420Nm, with all of this power being sent to all four wheels. Naturally, being electric, it’s weighed down a bit by the batteries and motors, and as a result, it weighs in at 2,190kg. Then finally we have the Hayabusa. But this is no usual Suzuki Hayabusa! It’s had a supercharger fitted to it, and as a result, its 1.3-litre 4-cylinder engine produces 385hp and 280Nm of torque! This power is sent to the rear wheels, and of course, it’s oh-so light, weighing in at 257kg. So how will this one play out - will the electric power of the Tesla propel it to victory? Or will either the Koenigsegg or Hayabusa sneak it? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE! 👋 The Tesla Model S Plaid is one of the fastest cars around! Fully electric super sedan with over 1,000 horsepower and torque! In todays video I drive this Tesla Model S Plaid and see what it's all about! A lot of us are familiar with the Tesla Model S, which is a pretty typical electric sedan you'll see driving around. The Model S Plaid however, cranks it up a notch and pumps out mind bending power and acceleration. 0-60 time is under 2 seconds which is crazy to comprehend. But it just keeps pulling so strong to 200 MPH! This Plaid is so fast, it feels like time is warping. I do like how in Chill mode the Model S Plaid calms down and feels like a pretty typical EV. It's comfortable and quiet. Once in Sport mode or Plaid mode, the car wakes up and is just breath taking with haw quick it accelerates.
