The bricks were made from red clay from an old tree throw that became enlarged by when wild pigs used it as a wallow. This red clay was carried to a pit near the work site and tread on till it was the right consistency. The bricks were then allowed to dry. While this happened, I obtained good quality clay from the creek and made a new brick mold, a rectangular clay pot for washing mud from the mold and two other clay pots. I then made a kiln out of bricks and fired the mold, pots and some bricks. I then used the new mold and pots to make more bricks. The kiln is easy to build and has a 50 brick firing capacity. The bricks should be useful for building permanent structures in future. About Primitive Technology: Primitive technology is a hobby where you build things in the wild completely from scratch using no modern tools or materials. These are the strict rules: If you want a fire, use a fire stick - An axe, pick up a stone and shape it - A hut, build one from trees, mud, rocks etc. The challenge is seeing how far you can go without utilizing modern technology. I do not live in the wild, but enjoy building shelter, tools, and more, only utilizing natural materials. This series explains how to build an electric kiln/furnace/oven, which can be used to melt metals, fire ceramics, burn out casting moulds (and make marshmallows). In part 1 we start by cutting an old almond oil drum into the bottom and top lid pieces. Then fire bricks are cut to the correct shape to form an octagon shape, and finally they're mounted in the oil drum. The silicate insulation material is also known as; calcium silicate and bio silicate.

I started by using a brick mold made of fired clay from a previous video and made bricks from clay. The bricks were allowed to dry and were then transported to my hut using a brick carrying harness I made from cane and a piece of wood. They were dry stacked onto the wall of the hut to keep them out of the rain while waiting to be fired. I then constructed a brick kiln using mud as a mortar for adhering the bricks together. The kiln had 2 fireboxes side by side and was of the updraft kiln type. The kiln was open at the front and back so it could be stoked from these areas. This gave a more consistent firing I found then a kiln only with firebox opening at the front. I put 40 un-fired bricks into the kiln and fired them for 2 hours 30 minutes. All the bricks were fired sufficiently. I then tested an un-fired brick and a fired one by putting them in water. The un-fired brick dissolved quickly while the fired one survived completely intact. The test was a success. My only issue is the bricks are a little weak due to the clay they're made of. I'll look at refining clay or finding a better source somewhere in this area. Correct Installation, of Rotary Kiln refractory Bricks at Cement Industry New lining meets old lining After breaking out the bricks, the old lining remaining in the kiln has to be fixed, by angle irons welded onto the kiln shell. You must follow these instructions, during Ring Closure Take great care to close, every ring correctly 1 . Tighten bricks with hydraulic jack. Maximum jack pressure, should not exceed 35 to 40, newton pair millimeter, brick cold crushing strength During jacking knock bricks, with rubber hammer 2 . Combine standard shapes, and key bricks to obtain a straight joint, of 4 to 6 mm thickness. Never cut standard, or key shapes parallel, to radial joint to fit the gap 3 . Inserting the last brick, In case the brick combination is perfect, without open joint, never knock with hammer onto the brick 4 . Staggered position of key bricks, and key shims. Do not use more than, 2 to 3 shims per rings. Recommended thickness 2 mm. Use pneumatic shim driver if available. Without shim driver, 3 mm thick shims are acceptable. Phased (bevelled) shims greatly facilitate driving in.Drive, in not more than one shim per joint. this channel Designed to spread All you want to know about the cement industry, including mechanics, production, problems related to equipment and methods of repairing them See more Information and Downlead Files from Blogger 🤍 #CementIndustry #engineering #BeltConveyor #RotaryKiln #Refractory #engineer #rawmill #ballmill

Warning! This uses high voltages and high temperatures and can be very dangerous. You make and use at your own risk! Homemade firebrick recipe: 4 parts Pearlite 2 parts Type S Mortar 1.25 parts Water I used a yellow plastic cup to measure and it this recipe makes one brick 13cm x 6 cm x 26 cm. Let the bricks dry for over a week. I used 2500w Kanthal wire. I cut it in half and stretched it by putting an Allen wrench in it and turning it to separate. I then only used about 85% of that piece and the rest as clips pushed into the fire brick to hold it in place. 🤍 🤍 I used this video to get the brick size but ended up using a different brick recipe than they used after watching a few more videos: 🤍

A fire brick, firebrick, or refractory brick is a block of refractory ceramic material used in lining furnaces, kilns, fireboxes, and fireplaces. A refractory brick is built primarily to withstand high temperature, but will also usually have a low thermal conductivity for greater energy efficiency. Usually dense firebricks are used in applications with extreme mechanical, chemical, or thermal stresses, such as the inside of a wood-fired kiln or a furnace, which is subject to abrasion from wood, fluxing from ash or slag, and high temperatures. In other, less harsh situations, such as in an electric or natural gas fired kiln, more porous bricks, commonly known as "kiln bricks" are a better choice. They are weaker, but they are much lighter, easier to form, and insulate far better than dense bricks. In any case, firebricks should not spall, and their strength should hold up well during rapid temperature changes.
